CFL Alumnus Charles Dubuque Passes

DUBUQUE, Charles (Chuck) Polcher
July 2, 1932 – February 13, 2020

It is with incredible sadness that we share the loss of the patriarch of the Dubuque family after a long battle with dementia.
Chuck’s life was rich and filled with many adventures. Chuck was an athlete, a teacher, and a mentor to all who he encountered. His early life rewarded him with numerous lifelong relationships with his east-end friends; a football career with the Vancouver Blue Bombers and the BC Lions, and a second career at Campbell and Grill. Chuck was an outstanding athlete. He loved football and was extremely proud to be a BC Lions alum. His second sporting love was golf – where he spent many hours perfecting his swing. Chuck was well known as a raconteur, regaling his family and friends with anecdotes and tales of his life experiences.
Chuck’s primary passion was his family. Family brought out the twinkle in his eye and a contagious smile. He loved the family trips to Maui and being with his children and grandchildren at any opportunity. He was always at their games, recitals, and celebrations. He loved the Sunday family dinners and any family get together. He was as proud of his family as they were of him.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nora; children: Maury (Jennifer), Kathleen (Lee), Maureen (Michael) and his grandchildren: Philip, Claire (Chad), Hillary, Curtis, Stephanie, Tyler, Sophie and Sasha; sister Stella Fraser.
Chuck was predeceased by his father Charles, mother Stella, sister Claudette and infant son Charles.
A Celebration of Chuck’s life will be held on March 7, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Marine Drive Golf Club, 7425 Yew Street, Vancouver, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Concussion Centre at the Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Please visit tgwhf.ca/tribute or call 416-603-5300.
