Donald Andrew Soberdash, 84, of Somerset, died May 27, 2021, at his home.
Born Jan. 22, 1937, in Connellsville, he is the son of Andrew James and Anna M. (Kostelnik) Soberdash. Preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kristin Lynn Soberdash; grandson Donald A. Soberdash III; brothers and sisters, Arnold, Francis, Wilma, Maryann, Nancy, Marcella, and Marlene.
Survived by his wife, the former Patricia Rae Knight, to whom he was married 46 years, children: Ty D. Soberdash, of Mercer, Brandi L. Kalina and husband Robert of Jennerstown, Candy Szfranski and husband Roger of Alamo, Calif., and Donald A. Soberdash II and wife Darlene of Dawson; grandchildren, Beau A. Soberdash, Dalton E. and Dallas H. Lepley, Emma D. Mauri, Michael Hetrick, Eva Jacobson, Austin Sfranski, Savannah Christiansen, Lacey Winters, and Kade Cooper; brothers, Alfred Soberdash of Dunbar, and Thomas Soberdash of Connellsville.
Don was a 1955 graduate of Dunbar Township High School, and a graduate of University of Georgia, where he played football and was captain 1959-1960 of the team that won the 1960 Orange Bowl, and in 1959 won SEC. Don later was inducted into the football hall of fame at UGA, and following college he went to Ontario and played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Don was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, coaching sports, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Friends received 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at HAUGER-ZEIGLER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, Somerset. A funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Somerset, with Father Angelo Patti celebrant.
