Obituary
Fred Forsberg, age 76, passed away on Tuesday at his home in Sammamish. He was born on July 4th, 1944 to Oscar and Ruth Forsberg in Tacoma. Fred graduated from Wilson and was recruited by Jim Owens to play football for the University of Washington, where he was a three-year, two-way lineman starter, a prominent player in the 1963 Rose Bowl team, and a participant in three college all-star games.
Drafted by the Denver Broncos in the 14th round, he was a fearless and ferocious player with a keen football instinct, and quickly found a home as a starter and captain for one of the best defenses in the league. When asked about his time playing pro ball, “Fantastic Freddie” (self-titled) would say that he never had a job until he was 30. Finishing his career with short stints in Buffalo and San Diego, Fred returned to Washington, where he leveraged his work ethic and friendly smile to become a nationally recognized salesperson with the NCH corporation.
Fred will be best remembered for his gregarious personality and infectious laugh. He loved the Broncos, the Rolling Stones, any “Hard-Way” bet, Lake Chelan, skiing, his children, grandchildren, and wife of 54 years, Kaye, whom he loved more than anything else in the world. He is survived by his wife, his brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Diane Forsberg, his children Robin and Jeff and their spouses – Cliff and Terri – and his five grandchildren, Travis, Zach, Kate, Gannon, and Calvin.
Honoring his wishes, there will not be a funeral service. However, well-wishers are encouraged to raise a bottle of Bud-Light and drink in his honor. Fred would remind everyone to live life to the fullest and fill every day with laughter. We love him deeply.
