ALOUETTES MOURN THE LOSS OF GLEN WEIR
By CHARLES ROOKE AND FRANCIS DUPONT
Montreal, March 15, 2023 – The Montreal Alouettes are very saddened to have learned about the passing of their former star player Glen Weir, who died on Monday, at the age of 71.
Weir played 203 games over 13 seasons with Montreal, between 1972 and 1984. The defensive tackle played at a time where defensive statistics weren’t recorded, but that did not stop him from being named a CFL East Division All Star on six occasions.
Greatly appreciated by his teammates, he helped the team hoist the Grey Cup in 1974 and 1977.
1977 was in fact the year when he filled up his trophy case, as he was named the Grey Cup’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player, was voted the East Division’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player, and the Alouettes’ Most Outstanding Canadian Player. He was also selected to the CFL All Star Team for the second time of his career.
