Former NFL defensive end Leroy Jones passed away at the age of 70. He left Norfolk State early, but he signed a contract with the Edmonton Football Team of the Canadian Football League in 1973. After two seasons in the CFL, he became eligible for the NFL Draft.
In 1975, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2nd round. Although drafted by the Rams, he never appeared in a game for them as he was traded in 1976 to the San Diego Chargers. Jones played for the Chargers from 1976-1983.
Jones played for three AFC West championship teams in San Diego. He played in 111 NFL games in his career, and played on three AFC West championship teams in San Diego. Condolences to his family and friends, may he Rest in Peace.
