CFL Alumnus Steve Beaird Passes

Steve Beaird, a former running back in the CFL, passed away on July 24th at the age of 70. The announcement was made by his alma mater Baylor University. He played two seasons for the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg after turning down an offer from the St. Louis Cardinals in the NFL. Beaird was part of a Baylor team that went from last to first in the Southwest Conference, and it won the school’s first league title in 50 years. Beaird was a unanimous all-conference pick and the MVP of the league, according to the Houston Post. He went on to be drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the seventh round of the 1975 NFL Draft. He played in Winnipeg for two seasons and made the All-Star team in 1976. He left pro football right after completion of the 1976 season.
