Longtime CFL offensive lineman Tony Washington announced his retirement from professional football via his Twitter account on Monday morning.

The six-foot-seven, 318-pound blocker signed with the Calgary Stampeders in 2011 following a stint in the Arena Football League and dressed for five regular season games as a CFL rookie. In 2012, he was released after training camp and signed with the Toronto Argonauts where he won his first Grey Cup that same year.
The native of New Orleans, La. played 21 games over two seasons with the Boatmen before being traded to the Edmonton Football Team on May 14, 2014 alongside Otha Foster and first and second-round draft picks in exchange for first and third-round picks. The Argos used the selections on Manitoba running back Anthony Coombs and UBC offensive lineman Jaskaran Dhillon, respectively, while Edmonton picked St. FX receiver Devon Bailey and Toronto running back Aaron Milton.
Washington played 49 games over four seasons with Edmonton, winning a second Grey Cup in 2015. He was suddenly released by the team on Aug. 6, 2017 and signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats two days later. He played 17 games with the Ticats before being traded to the Montreal Alouettes on July 22, 2018 alongside Johnny Manziel and Landon Rice in exchange for Jamaal Westerman, Chris Williams, and first-round picks in the 2020 and 2021 CFL Drafts.
The 36-year-old played 37 games over three seasons with the Alouettes before he was traded to the Elks on Jan. 14, 2022, reuniting him with head coach and general manager Chris Jones from his first stint in Edmonton. He played nine games for the team this past season but was released following its conclusion on Dec. 1.
In total, Washington played 138 games over a career that spanned three trades, five teams, 11 seasons, and 12 years.
