The TeleRehab Centre for Acquired Brain Injury, in collaboration with the Canadian Concussion Centre, is able to receive clinical referrals for CFL Alumni. Please see below for services currently offered and procedures for referral. (Note that these are well-established clinical interventions and not treatments under development.)
The treatments are in group format and delivered to participants in their homes online. CFL alumni would likely be placed with other former athletes unless there was a clinical or logistical reason not to do so. The services are offered at no charge to the participants, and prospective participants would need a referral either from a physician or an allied health care provider. The referral form can be downloaded from the Centre’s website.
In addition to the services below, there are clinical randomized control trials for which some of the alumni may be eligible.
The Canadian Concussion Centre would like to take this opportunity to thank the many alumni who have taken part in its research program. These alumni, who have participated in neuroimaging studies, clinical neuropsychological assessments and experimental cognitive studies, have helped to advance our understanding of the effects of multiple concussions sustained in professional football, and to develop treatment protocols to help others.
Services Offered
They offer several types of group therapy, each requiring a commitment of approximately 2.5 hours/week. Eligibility for these treatments is determined by an intake process including a clinical interview. Treatments focus on developing and practicing strategies for optimizing day-to-day functioning after concussions or more severe brain injuries.
